Georgia is a country in Caucasus region of Eurasia.  It is sandwiched between the West Asia and the East Europe.  Before the disintegration of the USSR,  it was an integral part of the Soviet Union.  It got separated from the Soviet bloc in early  1990’s.  Tbilisi is the capital and the largest city in Georgia.  Georgia has a population of around 37 million.  The legal tender is Georgian Lari.

Geography & Weather

Georgia is bounded West by the Black Sea,  North by Romania, South by Turkey and Armenia and South East by Azerbaijan. Georgia is a small country by size.  It has an extremely diverse weather patterns with two distinct climatic zones.  One part of the country has a humid sub-tropical climate.  The other swathe of the country has a mild and chill climate which is enjoyable all through the year.  The country enjoys precipitation annually 4000 mm.  Georgia is a mountainous country with a thick coverage of forest.  The western Georgia landscape ranges from low land marsh forests,  swamps and temperate  rain forest.  Some mountain ranges are covered with snow and glaciers.  Due to the presence of vast area of forest and greenery,  the rainfall in Georgia is higher than that of adjacent countries.

Georgia is a unitary semi-presidential republic.  The government is elected by the system of representative democracy.   Georgia is a member of the United Nations and the council of Europe.  Georgia maintains cordial diplomatic ties with Asian countries like Sri Lanka and Pakistan and European countries such as the UK,  France,  Germany etc.
